Johannesburg – A woman driver was shot in the stomach when she and her two passengers were hijacked in Johannesburg on Sunday morning, metro police said.
“A woman in her late 20s was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach at the intersection of the R554 and the Old Vereeniging Road in Eikenhof just before 6am,” Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.
“She was discovered by a tow-truck driver who phoned the metro police and assumed she was bumped by a car.”
When officers arrived on the scene, the woman said she was shot by hijackers who robbed her of her silver VW Polo. She said the two men with her in the car were shot and dumped along the Golden Highway near the R554.
Metro police officers went to the scene but could not find any sign of the two men.
The woman was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital.
